Public transport

Most of Derbyshire's key towns and villages are served by buses and some by train.

Folding bikes can usually be carried on buses and trains which makes great door-to-door journeys.

You can check if your journey is possible by public transport using Traveline.

Bus travel

You can take advantage of discounted tickets from several operators:

  • if you use an Arriva bus to travel to and from work, you can now get ticket discounts giving you unlimited bus travel 7 days a week
  • discounted Stagecoach Megarider weekly tickets for our employees and for travel in the Chesterfield area as well as across the region are available
  • Mango cards, which automatically provide discounts, are a great way to save money on Trent Barton buses
  • Trent Barton Super Commuter season tickets can be paid for through salary deductions
  • Littles Travel offer a discount for 6-day unlimited bus travel - this ticket is interchangeable between Clay Cross, Alfreton, Ripley, Belper, Nether Heage, Crich and Matlock

Train travel

Rail travel is usually the best option for journeys to major towns or cities and is often cost-effective if you book early.

If you're travelling a long distance for work, a completed rail ticket request form is required from CST orders, email ccp.orders@derbyshire.gov.uk. However, if travelling 'locally', for example, from Matlock to Derby, buy your ticket at the station and reclaim through WorkPlace, which saves the £1.50 printing and booking charge.
