This programme is designed to help you settle into your role, understand how we work, and start contributing confidently and effectively to our shared priorities.
Welcome to your induction
Your induction programme will be tailored to your role. If you’re a line manager, it’ll include extra content to support your leadership responsibilities.
Our goal is to give you the skills and knowledge you need to make a confident start in your new role.
You will be automatically enrolled on to the induction programme on Derbyshire Learning Online (DLO) when you start with us or move roles.
When you log in, you'll find the induction programme in your 'mandatory learning' section. This will guide you through the required elements.
If you're a new starter, you'll normally gain access to DLO within 48 hours of your start date.
If you don’t have a derbyshire.gov.uk email address, your line manager should email derbyshire.learningonline@derbyshire.gov.uk to ask for a temporary password for you. This will be emailed to your line manager. Once logged in, you can add a personal email address to DLO.
Manager guidance
Induction begins as soon as soon as you place an advert.
Once a start date is in place, you should keep in touch with the colleague and ensure that ahead of their first day they know where to go, when to arrive and what to bring with them.
Consider ordering their ID badge, arranging a parking permit, and ordering or obtaining all the equipment they will need in advance, so they have these when they start.
Perhaps let them know what the priorities for the team are so they can start to feel involved.
There are 3 types of induction which vary in length and content depending on role and responsibilities. Each of the inductions will contain relevant learning accompanied by a checklist.
Guidance for colleagues and managers on the content and expectations of the induction programmes can be found here:
These inductions run alongside any role, departmental- or location-specific induction that may also be undertaken.
As a line manager, you must review the induction learning and checklist appropriate for your new employee, support them to access their emails and DLO, and provide adequate time to complete their induction.
All learning should be completed on DLO wherever possible.
Alternative format documents are available, but these should only be used by colleagues who don't have internet access and can't access the e-learning course through one of the following methods:
ID badges
All colleagues should be issued with identity badges which must be worn when accessing our buildings.
If you're a new employee your manager will complete the ID badge request form as part of your induction.
