The following induction checklist relates to new colleagues without line management responsibilities.

Week 1
Learning required
Building and logistics
- Knowing where to park your car or bicycle and having the appropriate permit
- Knowing where the toilets, kitchens and other facilities are located
- Understanding building access requirements including the entrance, exit, door codes, fire exits, fire notices, fire doors and evacuation routes for disabled people.
- Having your ID badge
- Knowing how to drive on council business (if appropriate)
Team and planning
- Knowing which department, service and team you work within
- Introducing yourself to your team members
- Knowing who your key contacts are introducing yourself to them
- Having a regular induction meeting booked with your manager
- Awareness of the Council Plan, how council decisions are made and employee values
Digital
Data security and confidentiality
- Knowing how to use your digital equipment appropriately (if applicable)
- Knowing to use Halo if something goes wrong with your equipment
- Knowing how to keep information safe by handling personal data sensitively, keeping your desk secure (if applicable), and maintaining confidentiality
- Awareness of the Data Demon campaign
HR
Health and safety
- Understaning it's your responsibility to work safely and report concerns
- Understanding specific health and safety requirements in your role, potential workplace hazards and that any specific health and safety related equipment requires appropriate training before use
- If there is a red Health and Safety box, knowing where it is
- Completing the display screen equipment assessment and knowing about the eye care scheme (if applicable)
- Receiving appropriate personal protective equipment for my role
- Understanding that violence against any employee in the course of their employment is both legally and morally unacceptable and the council will treat seriously, any incident that is reported. We encourage all employees to report any incident where personal safety is at risk
First one-to-one discussion topics
- How you're feeling and what your manager can do to support you over your induction
- The plan for your first few weeks in the role and what your goals are during the induction period
- Scheduling regular one-to-ones with your manager
- The probationary period and what this means
